With the Señor Sto. Niño's protection, the school said, Cebu survived the storm. On the festival intended to honor the Holy Child Jesus, Abellana National School shows its gratitude through its Sinulog street dancing performance.
Marc Ladaran, one of the contingent's dance directors, said Abellana's presentation in the Sinulog sa Kabataan sa Dakbayan and Sunday's Grand Parade is a dance of gratitude.
"We saw how strong the storm was and how grave the damages it brought. With the help of the Señor, we survived and are now rebuilding our lives," he explained in Cebuano.
Through the Sto. Niño's intercession, he added, help for Cebu and the rest of the Visayas came swiftly in the form of aid from other countries.
"We want to portray the theme Bangon Visayas with the help of the Señor Sto. Niño and also show deep gratitude to those who swiftly came to our aid," he cited.
The school's message is being relayed by 100 student dancers and over 300 others who will be bringing the props. Helping defray the cost of the school's performance are its alumni association and other sponsors.
Abellana will compete in the free interpretation category of the Sinulog Grand Parade.
